Similar to rockbolts, except that the tendon is typically installed in cohesive soil (clay or weathered rock) faces or embankments.

Soil nailing can be an economical technique for stabilising road and railway cuttings, and is usually complimented with the use of shotcrete on the face of the exposed cutting.
